Why the chase for prestige is a scam

Mar 17, 2026

People chase recognition, because they are scared of being disliked by others; they don't want their dates to be disappointed in what they do for a living, and they don't want their friends to see them as losers. Therefore, many people choose their careers based on other people's hierarchy of values because they want recognition, even when it often goes against their system of values.

All of them are prostitutes. Let me explain.

Why is it wrong for a politician to lie to the public for votes? It's because the politician is going against their own hierarchy of values to be adhered to by others. They're selling their soul in exchange for money or status just like prostitutes.

Is this how you want to live life? Gurgling on everyone's dicks? NO, giving up on the desire for recognition and becoming courageous enough to not care about what others think is completely within your control. The moment you're capable of doing this, you can stop walking on the roads paved by other people and construct a path towards true fulfillment.

Remember, you can choose a life that fits what you perceive as a cool and righteous way to live, but once the desire for recognition becomes a factor of the decision-making, you're no longer living life as yourself – you've sold out.

Side Note: This writing was originally written as a note to myself to organize some of the thoughts that appearted to me while I was reading the book "The Courage to be Disliked". This writing makes me seem extremely douchey because I am talking as if I am an embodiment of righteousness and instructing others on how to live life, but just know that I am talking to myself here.
